Z-Man Scented PogyZ 3" x 5pcs Soft Lure Soft Bait

The Scented PogyZ is a 3" paddletail swimbait shaped after deep-bodied baitfish — pogies (menhaden), pilchards and pinfish — rather than the slim minnow profile most swimbaits copy. That taller, flatter body pushes more water and flashes wider on the turn, which is what inshore predators key on when feeding on schooling bait. It carries Pro-Cure Super Gel scent, so it works on the fish's nose as well as its eyes in dirty water. The body is moulded in ElaZtech, which Z-Man rates at up to 10X the durability of standard soft plastic and which floats — on a jig head the tail sits up instead of collapsing to the bottom. Supplied five baits per pack in sixteen colours.

How To Fish It

• Slow-roll on a jig head — Fish a 5–10 g head over grass flats and sand holes, winding just fast enough to feel the tail thump. Slow further as the water cools.
• Bottom hop — Let it hit the bottom, then lift the rod tip to 10 o'clock and drop back on semi-slack line. Most strikes come as it falls.
• Weedless over cover — Rig on a weighted swimbait hook and swim it across oyster bars, mangrove roots and weed where a jig head snags.
• Under a popping cork — Suspend it 45–90 cm below a cork over shallow flats, pop the cork once, then let the bait settle on a slack line.

Target Species By Region

• Southeast Asia — Barramundi (siakap), mangrove jack and estuary grouper around mangrove drains and jetty pilings; queenfish and small trevally off rock walls and river mouths.
• North America — This is the bait's home water: redfish, speckled trout and flounder over grass flats and along marsh drains, plus striped bass, snook and small bluefish in the surf and around inlets.
• Japan & East Asia — Seabass (suzuki) on light shore casting tackle, flathead and hirame along sandy beaches, and rockfish (mebaru, kasago) around harbour structure.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Flathead, bream and estuary barramundi in Australia; bass and pollack over European reefs; queenfish and small grouper on Gulf flats.

• 3–10 g jig head, or a 3/0 weighted swimbait hook for weedless work over cover
• Medium-light to medium 6'6"–7'6" spinning rod, 10–20 lb braid
• 20–30 lb fluorocarbon leader inshore; step up to 40–50 lb around oysters, pilings and mangrove roots
