The Scented Jerk ShadZ is a soft jerkbait — a slim, tapered baitfish body with a split V-tail, designed to be fished with no weight at all. Twitched on a slack line it darts left and right like a hard jerkbait but with none of the noise, and because Z-Man rates ElaZtech as naturally buoyant an unweighted bait hangs in the strike zone instead of sinking away. That hovering pause is where most fish commit, and it is why the bait works in clear or pressured water. A hook slit runs along the belly and a recess is moulded into the back to seat a wide-gap hook point, so it rigs Texas-style and comes through cover clean. Infused with Pro-Cure Super Gel scent; Z-Man rates the 10X Tough construction as outlasting ordinary soft plastics. Supplied 5" long, five per pack, twenty-three colours.

How To Fish It

• Weightless twitch — Rig Texas-style on a wide-gap hook. Drop the rod tip and give two or three sharp downward twitches with slack in the line so the bait darts side to side, then stop. Repeat all the way back.
• The hover pause — Hold the pause longer than feels comfortable, three to five seconds. The bait sits nose-up and the scent works; in cold or clear water this is where the bite happens.
• Texas rig around cover — Add a light bullet weight and work it through grass edges, laydowns and mangrove roots, letting it glide into pockets.
• Vertical jigging — Drop it over deep structure for perch, zander and reef fish, lifting and letting the V-tail flutter back on a controlled line.

• Southeast Asia — Barramundi (siakap) and mangrove jack twitched along mangrove roots and river mouths on the tide, giant snakehead (toman) and peacock bass over reservoir margins.
• North America — Largemouth and smallmouth bass in clear pressured lakes, stripers on flats and tailraces, pike and musky; inshore snook, redfish and speckled trout around docks and passes.
