A1246 is the #2.0 in Yo-Zuri's traditional cloth-wrapped Aurie-Q line, the Oita-pattern egi: no fins, no moving parts, just a well-balanced shrimp body inside a premium ultra-cloth wrap. At 6 g it sits one step above the 5 g A1348 — a single gram, but on light tackle that gram is the difference between a jig that hangs in the surface layer and one that will cut through a light chop and hold its line in a slow drift. The wrap resists squid beaks and rock scuffing, 3D eyes and fin detailing carry the baitfish impression, and an anti-tangle rotating eyelet keeps line twist down through repeated jerk sequences.

How To Fish It

• Cast and count in layers — Work the water column in stages: five seconds, then seven, then nine, jerking after each fall until something stops the jig. Then repeat that count every cast.
• Light shakuri cadence — Tip low, two to four short upward snaps so the body darts sideways, then release the tip and let it settle on a gentle bow. Squid take on the settle, not the snap.
• Work a drifting boat — At 6 g the jig will still hold a sensible angle on a slow drift. Drop, lift twice, then hold the rod still and let the jig swing back, watching the tip load or go slack.
• Sweep, never strike — Squid grab with their arms rather than bite. Lean smoothly into any change in the line and keep tension all the way to the net; pumping the rod loses them.

• Southeast Asia — Candat sotong for bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) from jetties, kelong and inshore night boats around Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
• North America — Market squid under California pier and harbour lights, fished down the pilings after dark.
• Japan & East Asia — Light eging for autumn aoriika and hiika, and kensaki-ika on quiet boat drifts; also common in Korea and Taiwan.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari over shallow seagrass in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania; European squid and small cuttlefish on Mediterranean marks.
