A1030 is the #2.5 in the core Aurie-Q Cloth line, and it is the size most anglers reach for first: big enough to cast and to interest a decent squid, small enough not to spook a wary one. At 10 g Yo-Zuri publishes a sink rate of roughly 5.3 sec/m, which is a genuinely slow fall for the weight and the single most useful thing about this model: the jig hangs in the strike zone instead of diving to the bottom, so it suits depths of around three to eight metres in light to moderate current. The cloth-wrapped body gives a lifelike texture squid hold onto, and the Trick Hook Round crown mixes a straight-hook profile that pulls free of snags with a rounded bend that resists losing a hooked squid.

How To Fish It

• Count the fall at 5.3 seconds per metre — A thirty count is close to six metres. Start shallow, add five seconds each cast until the jig gets stopped, then repeat that count for the rest of the session.
• Shakuri jerk and settle — Tip low, two to four sharp upward snaps to dart the jig sideways, then drop the tip and let it settle nose-down on a controlled bow of slack. The take comes on the settle.
• Use the slow rate over structure — Falling slowly, it swims well over weed beds, rock and reef edges where a fast-sinking egi hangs up. Keep it just above the growth, not in it.
• Sweep, never strike — A squid wraps the body with its arms rather than biting. If the line stops, jumps or drifts, lean into the weight and wind under constant tension all the way to the net.
