The Anglar Searcher Worm Hook 4578 — 0.8g to 7g Weighted Soft Plastic Hook

A weighted worm hook solves a problem neither a jig head nor a plain worm hook can. A jig head casts and sinks but wears its lead on the outside with the point exposed, so it snags. A plain offset hook is weedless but has no mass to cast or sink. The Searcher takes the second and adds the first: lead moulded to the shank, the point still rigged back into the plastic. You keep weedless rigging and gain distance and a controlled sink, and with the lead buried inside the bait the lure keeps a natural silhouette and attitude.

What separates the 4578 from the Anglar Knocker is where that lead goes. The Searcher carries a longer weight along the belly of the shank, under the bait, not at the head. Lowering the centre of gravity that way keeps the plastic swimming level rather than diving nose-first, and on the pause it glides and settles flat like a stunned baitfish instead of pitching down. That is why the model is offered in ten weight steps starting at 0.8 g: with a belly weight, small changes in mass change the glide, so fine increments matter. How To Fish It

• Straight swim, mid-water — The core retrieve. Cast, count down, wind slowly and steadily so a paddle tail keeps thumping. The belly weight holds the bait level at speeds where a nose-weighted rig starts to tilt.
• Glide and pause — Two or three winds, then stop. It falls flat and slowly, and that is where most takes come; keep a semi-slack line and watch it jump.
• Skip and swim under structure — The light heads (0.8–1.7 g) skip under jetties, pontoons and overhanging trees, then swim straight out of the shade.
• Over weed and through timber — Swim it across grass beds or bump it through standing timber, and hesitate when it comes free of a branch.
• Rigging it — Point in through the nose, out a few millimetres down, rotate, then bury it in the top of the body. Keep the bait dead straight or it will spin.

• Southeast Asia — Hampala barb (sebarau) and peacock bass on light heads in clear reservoirs; giant snakehead (toman) and haruan over weed; barramundi (siakap), mangrove jack and small grouper (kerapu) on the heavier sizes around jetties and mangrove.
• North America — A swimbait staple for largemouth and smallmouth bass, plus redfish, speckled trout and flounder over inshore grass and oyster.

Specifications

Western numbering: #1 is the smallest here, then #1/0 rising to #5/0. Hook size and weight are chosen separately, and not every size appears at every weight — a #5/0 at 3.5 g gives a big bait a slow fall, a #2/0 at 7.0 g gives a small bait a fast one. Pick from the table.

Searcher or Knocker? The 4578 Searcher puts its lead along the belly for a level swim and a flat glide, and covers 0.8–7.0 g in ten steps up to #5/0 — the one for swimming a bait across open water and searching. The 4579 Knocker puts its lead in a slug at the head for a nose-down dive, and goes heavier at 11 g on a #4/0 — the one for dropping a bait into a hole in cover.
