Santec Lure Holder 6170 — 2 Set Hook Keeper

The Santec Lure Holder is a small hook keeper that clamps onto the rod blank and gives your lure a fixed home when you are not casting. Anglers normally hang a treble on a rod guide, which chips the ring insert and stresses the guide frame; this keeper takes the hook instead. It mounts with an elastic O-ring, so there is no drilling, gluing or permanent change to the rod, and two O-ring sizes are supplied so you can match the blank diameter above the reel seat. A rotating plastic lever does the work: lift it, drop the hook into the keeper, rotate it shut. With the lure pinned close to the blank it stops swinging on the walk in, stops catching on clothing and car seats, and stops the leader tangling around the tip.

How To Rig It

• Positioning — Slide the O-ring onto the blank just above the reel seat, ahead of your forward hand — close enough to reach without looking, far enough forward that the hooks sit clear of your fingers.
• Securing a lure — Wind down until the line is tight, lift the lever, hook one point of the treble into the keeper, then rotate the lever closed. Tension in the line is what stops the lure from swinging, so take up the slack.
• Walking and wading — With the lure locked down you can push through mangrove, scrub or rock without a treble grabbing your shirt or the angler behind you.
• Transport and storage — In a car, boat or on a bike rack, a secured lure will not swing into seats, nets or other rods. Fit one keeper per rod so every rod in the rack is under control.
