Santec Japan Rolling Swivel Black Nickel 7918

The 7918 is the black nickel rolling swivel in the Santec range, carrying the maker's Japan designation. Mechanically it does the same job as the plain 7910 — two eyes, a free-turning barrel, main line one end and leader the other — but it is finished in black nickel rather than bright metal, so it reflects far less light in clear water, where a flashing swivel draws attention to the join. Eight sizes are offered, #8 through #3/0.

How To Rig It

• Braid to leader — Palomar to the top eye, uni or improved clinch to the leader. Use it in place of a knotted line-to-line join when you want a firm stop for a bead or sinker.
• Clear-water rigs — In gin-clear reservoirs, sand flats and pressured estuaries, the dark finish keeps the swivel from acting as an extra attractor above the bait.
• Running sinker and float rigs — Sinker or float stopper above, swivel below, hook trace beneath. The barrel takes the twist out of a bait rolling in current.
• Choosing between 7918 and 7910 — On the store's own data the honest difference is finish and range. The 7918 is black nickel and Japan-designated but stops at #8 and #3/0; the 7910 has no finish designation and runs wider, down to #10 and up to #5/0, with more pieces per pack at every shared size. Pick the 7918 for a discreet join, the 7910 for very small or very heavy work and for stocking up.
