The Santec 7922 pairs a crane swivel with a coastlock snap, in seven sizes from #6 to #3/0. The coastlock is the most positive of the common snap forms: the tag wire runs down inside a long formed hook and has to be walked back out deliberately, so a head-shaking fish or a lure dragged through timber will not spring it. Behind the snap, the crane body keeps rotating under sustained load, where a plain barrel swivel starts to bind. That combination — a lock that holds and a swivel that keeps turning — is what heavy lure work, trolling and long drifts in current ask for.

How To Rig It

• Leader to lure or trace — Improved clinch or uni knot to the swivel eye, lure on the snap. Push the wire fully home inside the formed hook before casting; a coastlock left half-closed is weaker than a plain snap.
• Which snap for which job — Take the coastlock when the clip must not open: big fish, heavy jigs, trolling, hours of current. The crosslock 7923 is a close second, the safety snap 7933 is quicker to work, and an interlock snap such as the 7932 or 7934 is the fastest for constant lure changes. Every step towards a faster change gives up some holding security.
• Trolling and rotating lures — Fit it between leader and any lure that spins. If twist still reaches the reel, add a second swivel a metre up the leader.
• Sizing — #6–#2 for light estuary lures, #1–#1/0 for medium inshore work, #2/0–#3/0 for heavy jigs and bottom traces. Undersize it and the snap is what fails first.
