Santec 40cm Aurora Thread — Shining / Laser / Luminous / UV Lure Dressing Fibre

Santec Aurora Flash Threads are fine synthetic lure-dressing fibres that add colour, reflection and natural movement to hooks and artificial lures. The soft strands pulse and spread as the lure moves, creating the appearance of fins, scales or small baitfish fibres. Reflective variations catch available light, while luminous and UV-reactive options provide additional visibility in darker conditions. Each bundle is supplied folded at 40 cm, so you cut only what you need and trim the finished dressing to match a small assist hook or a full jig tail.

The Five Thread Types

  • Type A — Aurora Thread — Iridescent, colour-shifting fibre. Widest range at 14 shades, and the general-purpose choice for assist hooks and sabiki dressing.
  • Type B — Shining Thread — Straight metallic flash in six shades, for clean silver or gold baitfish tails without a colour shift.
  • Type C — Laser Thread — Prismatic fibre in ten shades that throws sharp, broken flashes as the jig rolls. Suits fast jigging and clear water.
  • Type D — Luminous Thread — Glow fibre in seven shades. Charge with a torch before the drop for deep water, night and dawn sessions.
  • Type E — UV Thread — UV-reactive fibre in nine shades that stays visible in deeper blue-green light and on overcast days.

Key Features

  • Adds flash, colour and movement without meaningful weight
  • Folded 40 cm bundle is easy to separate, cut and tie
  • Mixes with feathers, silicone skirts and other dressing materials
  • Suits treble hooks, single hooks, assist cords, jig heads and sabiki rigs
  • Freshwater and saltwater use; good for repairing worn factory dressings

How To Use It

  • Dressing an assist hook — Fold a pinch of fibre over the assist cord behind the hook eye, lock it with fly-tying thread or rigging floss, then seal with superglue or UV resin. Trim so the fibre ends just past the hook bend, or fish will nip short.
  • Rear hook on a metal jig — Tie a small bunch to the tail treble or single. It slows the flutter slightly and gives fish a target on the pause, which is where most jig bites happen.
  • Building your own sabiki — Dress each dropper with a few strands sized to the hook. Alternate a reflective type with a luminous type so you can see which the fish prefer that session.
  • Blending types — Base of Aurora or Shining plus two or three strands of Luminous or UV: the glow strands give a reference point in dark water while the reflective fibre carries the flash.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Home-tied assist hooks for grouper (kerapu), snapper (jenahak) and queenfish; dressed sabiki for scad and squid around kelong and jetty lights, where luminous strands earn their keep at night.
  • North America — Bucktail and hair-jig substitutes for striped bass, walleye and lake trout; dressed trebles on spoons and blade baits; steelhead tube patterns.
  • Japan & East Asia — A staple for self-tied assist hooks in slow-pitch jigging, tairaba and inchiku skirts, and sabiki-zuri rigs for aji and saba.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Dressed jig tails for snapper and kingfish in Australia; assist hooks for hamour in the Gulf; pike and sea-trout fly patterns and dressed pirk trebles in Northern Europe.
