S.A.S Flippy Shad 70mm 12g Floating Fishing Lure

The Flippy Shad is the short, dense member of the S.A.S shad family. Where the Beauty Shad puts 10.5g into a 75mm body, the Flippy Shad packs 12g into 70mm, and that difference is the whole point of the lure. More mass in a shorter body means it leaves the rod harder and flies further, holds its line into a headwind, and can be cast accurately at a distant snag on light gear. It also means less spare buoyancy, so on the pause it eases upward slowly rather than popping to the surface — the lure hangs in the strike zone instead of leaving it. The front diving lip pulls it under on the retrieve and the balanced body produces a compact, tight wobble rather than a wide roll. An internal rattle adds sound and vibration, which is the other thing the Beauty Shad does not have, and makes this the better pick in stained water, after rain and in low light.

How To Fish It

• Long-cast search — Use the casting weight for what it is worth. Fan long casts across open water or down a bank you cannot reach with a lighter lure, and cover water with a steady medium retrieve.
• Wind and stop on the rattle — Wind five or six turns, then stop for two seconds. The rattle falls silent and the lure lifts slowly. Restart the retrieve and expect the strike on that first turn.
• Twitch through coloured water — After rain, work short sharp twitches so the rattle keeps talking and the lure keeps breaking off line. Fish are hunting by sound and vibration as much as sight.
• Work the cover line — Place the cast tight to weed edges, laydowns and mangrove roots, get the lip down immediately, then slow-roll the lure along the edge.
