Megabass X-140 SW 140mm 19.5g Floating Minnow

The X-140 SW is the saltwater build of Megabass's big slim minnow, aimed at shore casting where distance decides how much water you can cover. The body is deliberately narrow and aerodynamically shaped, and a tungsten balancer system moves rearward on the cast to load the lure and keep it flying nose-first rather than tumbling — which gets a 19.5g bait out to ranges usually reserved for much heavier lures. On the retrieve the weight returns forward quickly, and the payoff is a high-pitch rolling action: a fast, fine flicker rather than a wide wobble, which holds up in current. Hit a current change or pause and the same body geometry lets it dart sideways off line. It floats and runs shallow, sitting in the top metre and rising when stopped, so it covers both the sub-surface and near-topwater strike zones on one cast.

Key Features

  • Floating saltwater minnow, 140mm, 19.5g
  • Runs in the 0–1 m band, just beneath the surface, and floats back up on the pause
  • Tungsten balancer system for casting distance and stable, nose-first flight
  • High-pitch rolling action on a straight retrieve for a fine, continuous flash
  • Darts sharply when paused or when it meets a current change
  • Fitted with #5 trebles (three)
  • Made in Japan

How To Fish It

  • Slow to medium steady wind — The default. Cast long, drop the tip and wind just fast enough to feel the high-pitch roll through the blank.
  • Drift the current seam — At river mouths, breakwater gaps and tidal drains, cast up-current and let the flow carry the lure across the seam. The dart happens naturally where the flow changes.
  • Twitch, pause, float — Two sharp twitches then a full stop. The lure darts off line and then rises slowly toward the surface, which is what commits fish that have followed without eating.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — A strong shore-casting choice: barramundi (siakap) at river mouths, jetty lights and mangrove drains; giant trevally (GT) and queenfish (talang) off rock walls and shallow flats; Spanish mackerel (tenggiri) working bait schools near headlands; and mangrove jack around structure.
  • North America — Striped bass in the surf and estuary rips, snook around bridge and dock lights, bluefish and redfish over shallow grass and sand.
  • Japan & East Asia — Japanese seabass (suzuki) on shore-casting sessions, the fishery the X-140 SW was built for, plus hirame and flathead from open beaches.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi, tailor and Australian salmon off northern estuaries and headlands; queenfish, golden trevally and barracuda on Gulf flats; European seabass over shallow reef and harbour walls.
