Megabass Flap Slap 76.2mm 10.6g Floating Lure

The Flap Slap sits between a lipless bait and a shallow crankbait, and is shaped on a threadfin shad profile. Inside is the patented Megabass Shaft Balancer System, an integrated weight that holds the lure's centre of gravity in place through the retrieve and produces a sharp, irregular rolling flash rather than the even wobble of a conventional crank — the look of a baitfish that has lost its balance. Because the body floats, you can stop it dead anywhere in the retrieve and it rises instead of hanging up, which makes it usable tight to riprap, weed lines and shallow rock. It runs to about 4 ft and is silent, with no rattle chamber, so it is a genuine option on pressured water where noisy baits have stopped working.

How To Fish It

• Straight crank — Cast past the target, wind at a steady medium pace and let the shaft balancer do the work. Parallel to riprap banks and weed edges is the highest-percentage line.
• Stop-and-go — Wind four or five turns, stop for one to two seconds and let the lure rise, then start again. The lift-and-restart is where most strikes land in cooler water.
• Twitch-pause over cover — Work it down to the top of submerged grass or timber, then feed two short jerks and a pause. The floating body climbs clear of the cover during the pause instead of snagging in it.
• Current seams — In rivers, cast up-current and retrieve just fast enough to keep the lure ahead of the flow across the seam.
