Megabass Dog-X Jr. Coayu Walking Bait

The Dog-X Jr. Coayu is a small baitfish-sized walking bait that carries Megabass's patented moving balancer systems in a finesse package. A Side-Stepping Moving Balancer throws weight to the left and right through each twitch, powering the hard, cutting turns that larger walking baits usually need mass to produce. A second, tail-mounted lateral moving balancer loads the cast for distance and precision and produces a distinct click-knock with every twitch. Worked gently, Coayu slides a smooth line across glassy water with an even cadence; speed the retrieve up or put more power into each twitch and it breaks into a frantic, fleeing-baitfish action. At 1/5 oz it is a genuine light-tackle and BFS bait rather than a scaled-down big lure.

How To Fish It

• Standard walk — Point the rod tip down and feed light, evenly spaced twitches on semi-slack line. Keep the rhythm steady; the side-stepping balancer does the work, so effort is not what widens the glide.
• Burst and pause — Put three or four hard, fast twitches together to make it flee, then stop dead for two to four seconds. Following fish commit on the stop.
• Calm water finesse — On glassy mornings, slow the cadence right down and let the click-knock and the wake do the calling rather than splash.
• Parallel to cover — Walk it along mangrove edges, weed lines, laydowns and jetty faces rather than across them, keeping the bait in the strike zone the length of the cast.

• Southeast Asia — Hampala barb (sebarau) on rocky river bends and reservoir points, giant snakehead (toman) over shallow weed, peacock bass in mining lakes, and small barramundi (siakap) on calm jetty flats.
• North America — Largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass, particularly on clear water where a full-sized walking bait gets refused, plus schooling white and hybrid bass.
