LURESFACTORY - TR SQUID ZAA 4.5cm 9g HARDBODY LURE TOPWATER
Luresfactory TR Squid Zaa 4.5cm 9g Hardbody Topwater
The TR Squid Zaa is a compact hard-body topwater lure built around a squid profile rather than the frog or baitfish shape almost every other surface lure copies. That matters more than it sounds. Reservoir predators in Southeast Asia see frog imitations constantly, and pressured fish learn to ignore them — but they also feed opportunistically on anything that falls in and struggles, from small animals to injured fish. A squid outline with trailing tentacles reads as none of the usual food items and none of the usual lures, which is exactly why it draws a reaction from fish that have stopped committing to frogs. Flexible silicone tentacles spread, pulse and trail behind the body during the retrieve, adding vibration and lively movement while the hard body holds its shape and its rattle after repeated fish. At 4.5cm and 9g it is dense for its size and casts accurately into wind.
Key Features
- Topwater hard body, 4.5cm and 9g
- Squid-inspired profile that presents an unusual silhouette to pressured fish
- Flexible silicone tentacles that spread and pulse on the retrieve
- Tentacles add vibration and visual attraction as the lure moves
- Strong close-fitting 2/0 double-hook system
- Lower hook exposure than a treble-hook lure around light vegetation
- Suits steady, twitching and pause retrieves
- Seven colour patterns including three striped finishes
How To Fish It
- Steady swim with the tentacles working — Wind at a constant, moderate speed so the body tracks on the surface and the tentacles stream and pulse behind it. This is the retrieve that shows the squid outline for longest.
- Twitch and pause — Two or three short rod-tip taps, then stop for two or three seconds. On the pause the tentacles keep breathing while the body sits still — a squid silhouette hanging motionless in an open pocket is the trigger a frog cannot give you.
- Fish it where the frogs have failed — On weed edges and timber that have been worked over with frogs all morning, cast the Squid Zaa through the same lanes. The change of shape and profile is the point of the lure.
- Contact and deflect — Bump it into reed stems, stumps and drowned branches. The stall and direction change after contact often draws the strike from a following fish.
- Set on weight, not splash — A hard body cannot compress, so striking at the boil pulls the hooks away. Keep winding, wait until the rod loads, then sweep sideways.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) on reservoir weed edges and drowned timber, striped snakehead (haruan) in canals and irrigation drains, hampala barb (sebarau) along river weed lines, peacock bass in lily pockets, juvenile barramundi (siakap) at mangrove drain mouths.
- North America — Largemouth bass over pads and grass where a non-frog surface profile beats pressured water, plus chain pickerel and bowfin in backwaters.
- Japan & East Asia — Snakehead (raigyo) on matted cover, bass over shallow reservoir weed, catfish (namazu) at dusk in canals.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Saratoga in lily-covered billabongs and barramundi in creek arms; pike and perch over shallow weed in European lakes and canals.
