The Megafrox Sharky Bait is the large-profile hardbody lure in the Megafrox range, measuring 12cm and weighing 20.7g. Where the Megafrox frogs are built to be dragged over matted cover, the Sharky Bait is the lure for the water in front of it — the open lanes, drain mouths, timber edges and reservoir points that big snakehead patrol when they are hunting baitfish rather than frogs. The size and weight give it real casting range on a baitcaster, letting you cover a long weed line or reach a far bank from the shore. Ten colour patterns run from natural browns and greens to high-visibility tiger, leopard and zebra finishes for muddy water and low light.

How To Fish It

• Fan-cast the edges — Work the outside line of weed beds, lily pads and reed walls rather than into them. Cast parallel to the edge so the lure stays in the strike zone for the whole retrieve.
• Steady search retrieve — Cover water at a constant medium speed to find active fish, then slow the retrieve down over the stretch that produced a follow or a strike.
• Stop and go — Wind five or six turns, stop for a count of two, then start again. The change of speed often converts a fish that has been tracking without eating.
• Fish low light — First light, last light and overcast afternoons are when toman and haruan push into shallow open water and a large lure gets seen.
• Delay the hook-set — When a snakehead hits, keep winding until you feel solid weight loading the rod, then sweep the rod sideways. Striking upward at the splash is the usual cause of dropped fish.

• Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) along weed lines, drowned timber and reservoir points; striped snakehead (haruan) at drain and canal mouths; peacock bass on rocky reservoir edges; hampala barb (sebarau) where feeder rivers push into still water.
• North America — Largemouth bass on the outside edge of pads and hydrilla, pike and musky on weed lines, and northern snakehead in mid-Atlantic tidal rivers.
