Lures Factory MF Salamander 9cm 15.4g Topwater
The MF Salamander is a walk-the-dog surface lure built around an odd silhouette rather than a baitfish one. Its long, textured body imitates a salamander caught out in open water — prey that reads as vulnerable and looks nothing like the poppers and pencils thrown at hard-fished reservoirs every weekend. That is the practical case for a novelty profile: where fish have learned to refuse the standard surface shapes, an unfamiliar outline and an unfamiliar wake will often draw the commitment a conventional lure no longer gets. Rhythmic rod-tip twitches send it side to side, and the internal rattle adds sound so fish can locate it in stained water, low light or a chop.
Key Features
- Salamander-inspired body — an unusual surface silhouette for pressured water
- Designed for side-to-side walk-the-dog action
- Internal rattle chamber adds sound and vibration
- Reinforced through-wire construction with a sharp rear treble for tail-end strikes
- 9cm at 15.4g for controlled casting and a visible surface presence
- Responds to twitching, jerking and pausing at slow or fast speeds
How To Fish It
- Walk the dog — Point the rod tip down toward the water, keep a little slack, and give short rhythmic downward twitches while taking up line between each. The slack is what lets the head swing; a tight line kills the side-to-side.
- Vary the cadence — Alternate a steady walking rhythm with a burst of three or four fast twitches, then a long pause. Sitting still after a commotion is what most often triggers a follower.
- Work the edges of cover — Cast parallel to weed lines, pad fields, timber and rock walls and walk it along the margin so it stays in the strike zone throughout.
- Choose your light — Dawn, dusk, overcast days and calm evenings suit walking baits. In flat glare, fish shaded banks and overhanging cover.
- Let the fish take it — On a blow-up, keep the rod low and do nothing for a beat. Only when the rod loads with the weight of the fish should you sweep sideways; striking at the splash pulls the trebles from an open mouth.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) and haruan over reservoir weed and timber, peacock bass on lake margins, hampala barb (sebarau) in river pools, barramundi (siakap) on mangrove edges.
- North America — Largemouth and smallmouth bass on lakes and rivers, northern pike in shallow bays, and inshore speckled trout and redfish over flats.
- Japan & East Asia — Largemouth bass on reservoir shallows with classic dog-walking technique, and snakehead (kamuruchi) in weedy canals.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi, saratoga and sooty grunter in northern Australian impoundments; pike, asp and perch on European lakes; tilapia in Middle Eastern dams.
