Lures Factory MF Prodigy Buzzbait Mark II 13cm 30.1g Buzzblade Topwater
The Mark II is the long-body version of the Prodigy platform, built around a dual metal blade assembly instead of a single propeller. The large blade pushes water for a wide wake, while the smaller blade adds a higher-pitched vibration and a second sound layer. At 13cm and 30.1g it carries essentially the same casting weight as the 11cm Prodigy in a noticeably longer body, and that lower density is the practical difference: the Mark II planes up faster, sits higher once tracking, and can be held on the surface at a slower speed — what you want when fish follow without committing. The silicone skirt spreads behind the head and partly shrouds a 5/0 single hook.
Key Features
- Dual metal blade assembly — large blade for displacement, small blade for added vibration and sound
- Same casting weight as the 11cm Prodigy but lower density, so it rises faster and holds the surface slower
- Silicone skirt for a fuller profile and continuous movement
- Large 5/0 single hook seated within the skirt
- Seven colour patterns for bright, stained and low-light water
How To Fish It
- Break the surface immediately — Start winding as it lands, rod tip high, so both blades turn within a metre of touchdown. The Mark II planes up quickly and needs less speed than the shorter Prodigy.
- Then slow right down — Lower the rod tip and reduce to the minimum speed that keeps the blades rotating. The long body still tracks on top at a crawl, keeping the lure in front of the fish longer.
- Low light and coloured water — Dawn, dusk, overcast days and warm nights; the twin-blade sound also helps in stained water where fish hunt by vibration.
- Parallel casts along the edge — Work weed lines, pad margins and timber lengthways rather than crossing them once.
- Bump the cover — Steer it so the blades tick a branch or pad stem. The stumble in rhythm as it deflects is the strongest trigger point in buzzbait fishing.
- Pause before you set — Keep the reel turning through the blow-up, wait a beat until the rod loads with the weight of the fish, then sweep sideways.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) over reservoir weed and timber, barramundi (siakap) on mangrove edges at first light, peacock bass and hampala barb (sebarau) on lake margins.
- North America — Largemouth bass over hydrilla and pad fields, northern pike in weedy bays, chain pickerel in backwaters.
- Japan & East Asia — Largemouth bass on warm-season lake shallows; snakehead (kamuruchi) in irrigation channels.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi, saratoga and sooty grunter in northern Australian impoundments; pike and big perch on European reed edges; tilapia in Middle Eastern dams.
