The Big Bob is the heaviest lure in this topwater range: 7.5cm and 26.5g of handmade, individually painted resin built on stainless-steel through-wire construction. Because each piece is finished by hand, small differences in colour, pattern and weight occur between lures. An internal rattle adds sound and vibration, a flexible wild-burst silicone skirt spreads and pulses behind the body, and the shape is designed to produce a broad jumping action and a wide surface wave rather than a tight walk. A sharp 3/0 hook system sits close to the body and a weed guard lets it pass light grass and vegetation with a lower chance of snagging than exposed hooks — no lure is completely snag-free.

The 26.5g matters most at the rod tip. How To Fish It

• Long-range search — Fan-cast open weed flats and reservoir arms at full distance and wind steadily. This is the lure for water you cannot reach with a lighter frog.
• Into the wind — Keep the cast low and flat and thumb the spool at the end. The mass carries through a headwind that kills lighter lures, and the wave stays visible in a chop.
• Slow wave push — In stained or coloured water, wind slower than feels right so the body ploughs rather than skims. The rattle and the displacement do the finding.
• Jerk and pause — Sharp pulls make it jump broadly to one side; stop dead for three to five seconds while the skirt breathes. Most takes come in the stop.
• Stop a beat, then sweep — Do not strike at the splash. Wind through the boil, let the rod load with weight, then sweep sideways. If the fish misses, cast straight back to the same spot — a big fish that has committed will usually come again.
