LURESFACTORY - DESSERT RUBBER FROG 3.8cm 6.5g SNAKEHEAD TOPWATER
Luresfactory Dessert Rubber Frog 3.8cm 6.5g Snakehead Topwater
The Dessert Rubber Frog is a compact 3.8cm, 6.5g surface frog with a soft rubber body rather than the hard resin used across most of the Bufo and Triton frog range, and that single difference changes how it fishes. A rubber body lands far more quietly than a resin one, which matters in thin clear water and on pressured ponds where a hard lure slapping down clears the pocket. It compresses when a fish clamps on, rather than holding the hook point away behind a rigid shell, and fish tend to hold a soft body a fraction longer before rejecting it — the pause that lets you get a proper hook-set in. The trade-off is durability: rubber tears where resin chips, so a soft frog is a consumable on toothy fish. The manufacturer's catalogue specifies a size 1/0 hook, sitting close to the body to reduce snagging in light grass and vegetation, though no lure is completely snag-free. A metal blade is fitted behind the body — the reverse of the front-bladed frogs in the range — so the flash trails the profile rather than leading it, and a fish tracking the blade arrives at the hook. Flexible coloured tail strands move alongside it, across ten colour patterns.
Key Features
- Soft rubber body, 3.8cm and 6.5g — quieter entry and more compression on the strike than a hard resin frog
- Size 1/0 hook per the manufacturer's catalogue, set close to the body for use around light cover
- Rear metal blade creates additional flash and vibration behind the profile
- Colourful flexible tail strands add movement during the retrieve
- Detailed colour pattern gives predatory fish a clear visual target
- Balanced size for controlled, accurate casting into pockets and openings
- Suits steady, twitching and stop-and-go retrieves
- Ten colour patterns, 01 to 10
How To Fish It
- Steady retrieve to run the blade — Wind at a constant medium-slow speed so the rear blade turns continuously. This is the searching retrieve for covering a canal bank or pond edge.
- Stop and go — Wind, stop for one to two seconds, wind again. The blade stalls and flares back on the first turn, and that restart is the trigger. The soft body also settles slightly on the stop, unlike a high-floating resin frog.
- Twitch into pockets — Short rod-tip twitches over weed openings, lily gaps and shaded margins. The quiet entry of a rubber body lets you cast into small holes without emptying them.
- Give it an extra beat on the strike — With a soft body the fish can close on it fully, so wind through the blow-up, wait until the rod loads with weight, then sweep sideways rather than striking up at the splash.
- Check the body regularly — Straighten the body on the hook after every few fish and change it once the tail strands or hook seat are damaged.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Striped snakehead (haruan) in canals, drains and paddy channels and giant snakehead (toman) on weeded pond margins, which is what this lure is named and sized for; peacock bass in lily pockets; hampala barb (sebarau) in shallow river runs.
- North America — Largemouth bass in ponds, creek backwaters and duckweed corners; chain pickerel and bowfin in shallow swamps; northern snakehead in tidal creeks.
- Japan & East Asia — Snakehead (raigyo) in small canals and irrigation ponds, catfish (namazu) at dusk, bass along shallow weedy margins.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Saratoga in lily-covered billabongs and sooty grunter in creek pools; perch and small pike over weed beds in European canals and lakes.
