Little Jack Mabunaiper 69mm 10g S-Series Sinking Shad

The Mabunaiper-S is a technical sinking shad built around the profile of a mabuna (crucian carp) fry, the forage that dominates many Japanese lakes, canals and reservoirs. Instead of a lip it takes water in through the mouth and gill openings, which slows and steadies its descent so it settles nose-level rather than nose-diving. A tungsten weight system carries the cast, holds that posture and adds a low rattle. Rotating eyes turn with the water flow, a small piece of realism aimed at fish that have seen a lot of lures. Two versions share the 69mm body: the plain S, and the S Blade, which carries a tail blade for extra flash and vibration. It suits mid-depth searching and slow, precise work over hard bottom.

How To Fish It

• Countdown and slow roll — Count it down to the depth holding fish, then wind slowly and evenly. Cover water until you get a response, then slow down.
• Twitch and settle — Two short twitches, then let it settle on a semi-slack line. The level sinking posture keeps it in view of the fish through the whole pause.
• Bottom bump — Let it hit bottom, then lift and drop along gravel bars and drop-off edges. On the S Blade the tail blade keeps working through the fall.
• Dead drift — In moving water, cast up-current and let it drift, taking up only enough slack to feel it. Effective on river fish sitting behind structure.
