How To Fish It

• Tada-maki (steady retrieve) — The core method. Count down to the bait layer and wind steadily; you should feel a constant tap through the blank. If the vibration stops, the blade has fouled.
• Lift and fall — Sweep the rod up, then lower it and let the lure drop on a semi-slack line. The blade flutters on the descent and most bites land here.
• Bottom bumping — Fish it to the bottom, wind three or four turns, then let it fall to contact again. This is the pattern for flatfish, seabass and rockfish sitting hard on the deck.
• Fast surface retrieve — For busting pelagics, cast past the school and wind fast just under the surface so the blade flashes across the top.
