HINOTSU - SJ-3 SLOW JIGGING HOOK PACK W/FLATTED 47813 FISHING HOOK
Hinotsu SJ-3 Slow Jigging Hook Pack w/Flatted 47813
The SJ-3 is the heavy-wire member of the Hinotsu slow jigging series. It is built on 2X-strong wire — a thicker gauge than a standard hook of the same size — and offered in a deliberately narrow band of #2/0 to #4/0. That combination answers one specific problem: a small hook keeps a slow-pitch jig fluttering the way it should, but a small hook on ordinary wire is the first thing to fail when a grouper turns into structure or an amberjack starts a downward run. The SJ-3 keeps the compact profile and puts big-hook strength behind it. The forged body, long shank and deep bend resist opening under load; the chemically sharpened Eagle Cutting point enters with little resistance and a pronounced barb holds through head shakes.
Flatted or ringed? A flatted hook has its shank end pressed flat rather than carrying an eye. You bind assist cord onto that flat and sleeve it: lighter, slimmer, and the flat stops the cord rolling round the shank — but you build the rig yourself. A ringed hook arrives with an eye or fitted solid ring and clips straight to a split or solid ring: faster and stronger at the joint, slightly bulkier at the hook. The SJ-3 is flatted.
Key Features
- 2X-strong wire — heavier gauge than a standard hook of the same size
- Forged body, reinforced against opening under sustained drag
- Flatted tying end that holds assist cord straight and controls hook alignment
- Chemically sharpened Eagle Cutting point with angled cutting surfaces
- Straight-point alignment, so pulling force runs into the point
- Deep bend, generous gap and a sharp barb that resists backing out
- Low-glare tinted finish; three sizes, #2/0 to #4/0
How To Rig It
- Building the assist — Fold Kevlar assist cord over the flatted section, whip it down with assist thread and seal the wrap. Finished length: roughly one third to one half of the jig body.
- When to choose it over the SJ-1 — Same size band, heavier wire. Move to the SJ-3 when you are fishing hard structure, running heavier drag, or have straightened a standard-wire hook on the same mark.
- Twin assist — A pair at the front covers the fluttering fall; add a rear hook for slow pitch, where the take often comes from behind.
- Fighting — Heavy wire needs load to bury. Keep the rod bent, wind rather than pump, and let the drag work.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Grouper (kerapu) and red snapper (ikan merah) tight to wrecks and coral heads, where fish must be turned early; tenggiri and gerepoh (giant trevally) on the same marks.
- North America — Amberjack and gag grouper over Gulf wrecks, plus lingcod and rockfish on rough Pacific ground.
- Japan & East Asia — Slow jigging for rockfish (根魚) such as kue and hata around hard bottom, and hiramasa where the fight turns into a straight tug of war.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Yellowtail kingfish and hapuku on Australian deep reef; hamour in the Gulf; ling and conger on European wrecks.
