The Hinotsu 7723 is the security option in the Hinotsu snap range — the only one with a double, interlocking closure rather than a single gate, which makes it the choice for big fish and for fishing tight to structure. On an ordinary snap the wire tip rests in one hooked catch; a sideways load, a jig slamming against the closure, or a lure levering on it while a fish rolls can spring that one catch open. The insurance-style closure locks the tip a second time, so the gate has to be deliberately worked open with your fingers rather than pushed open by the fight. The diamond-shaped body keeps attached lures, jigs and rigs centred and balanced while still letting them move, and the stainless-steel construction supplies both the spring tension the lock needs and corrosion resistance for hard freshwater and saltwater use. Seven sizes, #0 through #6, cover light tackle up to heavy saltwater rigs.

How To Rig It

• Where it goes in the rig — Tie the leader to the closed apex of the diamond with a uni or improved clinch and clip the lure, jig eye or split ring into the gate at the wide end. On rigs that rotate, run leader to a swivel and hang the snap below it, or use the 7713 rolling swivel with safety snap.
• Working the double lock — Open it deliberately: release the outer catch first, then swing the wire clear. Close it the same way and pull the lure sideways against the closure before you cast. If the second catch no longer engages, the snap is done.
• Matching size to tackle — #0 to #2 for light spinning and estuary work with small hard baits and jig heads; #3 and #4 for casting metals, medium jigs and inshore boat fishing; #5 and #6 for heavy leaders, large jigs and reef work where the drag is set high.
• When the snap becomes the weakest link — This series is sold by size, not by a printed lb rating. Around wrecks, bommies and mangrove roots the snap is the one component being levered while a fish is being turned, which is why the second lock exists. Where you need a stated breaking strength on a metal jig, the SP-1 jig snap 7719 is listed at 180 lb (S) and 230 lb (M).
• Rinse in fresh water after saltwater use — Salt crystallises in the interlock and stops the second catch seating. Rinse and dry the terminal set after every trip, and retire any snap with rust bloom at the closure or a lock that has been sprung by a hard fight.
