Hayabusa EX128 Golden Flasher Aurora Skin Sabiki (6 Hooks Per Pack)

Hayabusa is the Japanese maker that registered the Sabiki® name, and the EX128 is one of the more heavily dressed strings in the range. Most bait rigs use one attractor; the EX128 layers three in the same golden register — gold-toned fish skin, a gold flasher strip and an aurora finish over the top. Hayabusa positions the pattern as an imitation of both baitfish and crustaceans, and rates it for adverse conditions: low light, stained and murky water. Gold holds a visible edge in water that already carries colour, so this is the string for when a plain silver rig has gone flat.

How To Fish It

• Load the bait cage — Sabiki fishing (サビキ釣り) is a baited method. Pack an ami-kago (アミカゴ) cage with mashed Antarctic krill and clip it above or below the rig.
• Drop to the fish layer — Stop the rig at the depth showing bait rather than fishing blind on the bottom.
• Shake out the cloud — Two or three sharp up-and-down shakes empty krill from the cage. Stop dead and let the droppers hang inside the cloud, where the gold skin reads as krill among real krill.
• Re-charge, don’t re-cast — As the cloud thins, lift, shake again and settle back into the same column. Repeated small clouds build a school instead of scattering it.
• Wind slowly on a full string — With several fish on, keep winding steadily and swing the rig aboard. A hard lift tears hooks from soft mouths and pops light droppers.

Target Species By Region

• Southeast Asia — Indian mackerel (kembung), bigeye scad (selar) and sardine (tamban) off jetties and kelong; held in an aerated bucket they go straight back down as live bait for grouper (kerapu), trevally and barramundi (siakap).
• North America — Pacific mackerel, sardine and jacksmelt off West Coast piers; Atlantic mackerel and herring from northeastern breakwalls, mostly as tuna and striper bait.
• Japan & East Asia — Sabiki-zuri from breakwaters and boats for aji, saba and iwashi, the larger hooks for autumn fish.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Slimy mackerel, yellowtail scad and garfish off wharves; scad along Gulf harbour walls; mackerel and herring from European piers.
