The Duel Hardcore Sinking Pencil is a lipless slim-body lure designed to be thrown a long way and worked through the middle of the water column rather than on top of it. With no lip to catch air, and a magnetic weight transfer system that shifts the internal ball rearward in flight, it holds a stable nose-first trajectory into a headwind. On the retrieve the weight returns forward and the lure rolls in a loose sliding S-track; on jerks it darts hard to the side, then keeps gliding through the pause the way a fleeing baitfish does. The 80mm F944 at 9g suits shallow flats and river mouths on light tackle; the 100mm F945 at 14g suits open beaches and breakwaters. This is a discontinued Duel model number, so the colours here are what remain available.

How To Fish It

• Countdown and steady wind — Count the lure down one second at a time until you find fish, then wind at a medium pace so the body keeps its slow rolling track.
• Twitch and glide — Two short twitches on slack line, then a one-second pause. Most takes come during the sideways glide.
• Stop and go across current — Cast up-tide, let it drop on a semi-slack line, then wind three or four turns and stop. Repeat back through the run.
• Night work under lights — Swim it along the shadow line of a lit jetty or bridge where predators face into the current.

• Southeast Asia — Barramundi (siakap), mangrove jack, queenfish and small trevally around river mouths and rock walls; sebarau and peacock bass in reservoirs.
