The Worm313 Zero-Dan Rock is the saltwater, rockfish-tuned member of Decoy's Zero-Dan family — a complete rig sold as one piece, with the sinker already fixed at the front of an offset worm hook. The name is short for "zero leader down shot": a down shot in which the leader between hook and sinker has been reduced to nothing, so the weight sits directly at the hook eye. That one change is why the rig became a standard in Japanese rock fishing. You get the casting distance, sink rate and bottom feel of a jig head together with the weedless nose of an offset hook — two things that normally force a choice.

On the drop the sinker leads, so it lands first and the worm settles just above it rather than lying flat in the rocks, point riding up and buried in the plastic. That is what lets you cast tight into boulder fields, kelp and weed and drag the rig back out again. The Rock version is plated in Tin (Aqua Block) for salt resistance and built around larger rockfish; Katsuichi note that its casting distance also suits the surf.

How To Rig It

• Mounting the worm — Rig it exactly like a Texas worm. Enter the nose, thread down until the eye is buried, exit the underside, slide the worm forward against the sinker collar, rotate the hook and set the point back into the body. Keep the bait dead straight or it will spin.
• Feel the touchdown — Fish it on a semi-taut line so you register the tap of the sinker landing. Rockfish take the worm on that first settle more often than at any other moment.
• Lift and fall through structure — Lift the rod tip 30–50 cm, then follow the fall down with it. The sinker leads over each boulder and the bait follows above, so the hook is rarely first to the rock.
• Slow drag on sand and surf — On open bottom wind just fast enough to keep the sinker ticking, pausing where the bottom changes. The heavier sizes reach beach gutters.
• Freeing a snag — Slacken off rather than pulling; the weight falls back off the rock and the buried point usually follows.

• Southeast Asia — Grouper, mangrove jack and estuary cod around rock walls, jetty legs and rubble; trevally over broken ground on the heavier sizes.
• North America — Rockfish, lingcod and cabezon on Pacific reefs; black sea bass, tautog and redfish on Atlantic and Gulf structure.
• Japan & East Asia — Its home fishery: ainame (fat greenling), bekko-zoi, kijihata (red-spotted grouper) and kasago, plus surf work where distance matters.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Snapper and flathead on Australian reef edges; hamour on Gulf structure; pollack, wrasse and bass over European rock marks.
