DECOY - VJ-75 PLUS GUARD JIG HEAD MADE IN JAPAN
Decoy VJ-75 Plus Guard Jig Head — Made In Japan
The VJ-75 Plus Guard is a light finesse jig head fitted with a weed guard, so an exposed-hook presentation can be fished where a bare jig head cannot go. An open hook converts bites best, but it also finds every branch, weed stem and rock crevice on the way back. The guard sits ahead of the point and deflects that cover, at the cost of a little hook exposure — the trade every guard makes. On a head this light it is worth taking, because these are weights you fish deliberately and close to structure, where snagging up would end the drift anyway. Supplied in matt black, hook sizes #2 and #3, in six size and weight combinations from 0.6 g to 1.8 g.
Key Features
- Weed guard ahead of the hook point so the head can be worked through cover and structure
- Light finesse weights, 0.6 g to 1.8 g, for slow falls and close-quarters presentations
- Matt black finish — a low-glare surface for clear and shallow water
- Six hook size and weight combinations across #2 and #3
- Made in Japan by Katsuichi
How To Rig It
- Threading the plastic — Enter the nose of the bait on the centre line, push the hook through the body along its axis and bring the point out on top. A bait threaded off-centre will spin, and at these weights spin kills the fall.
- Fall into cover — Pitch to the edge of weed, timber or a pontoon and let it drop on a controlled line. Watch the line, not the rod tip; at 0.6 to 1.4 g the take is often just a tick or a stall.
- Shake in place — Once it lands, hold the rod at 10 o'clock and shake the tip without dragging the head. The guard lets you sit the bait against cover instead of pulling it away from the fish.
- Tuning the guard — Fan the fibres out for maximum cover protection, or press them flatter towards the point when fish bite short. Sweep the set firmly so the guard collapses fully.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Hampala barb (sebarau) around rocky river structure, peacock bass and tilapia beside submerged timber, and small barramundi (siakap) and mangrove jack pitched into pilings and roots.
- North America — Largemouth and smallmouth bass on light finesse presentations into laydowns and dock pilings, plus crappie and perch around brush piles.
- Japan & East Asia — Black bass on bait finesse tackle in reservoirs and canals, and rockfish game for kasago and mebaru worked into rock crevices and harbour structure.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Estuary bream and flathead fished tight to oyster racks and pontoons; perch and zander around marina structure.
