American Tackle Standup BR Guide 64BGSG Black/Gold
The 64BGSG is the standup guide of the 64 series: a black and gold frame sold singly in six sizes from 8 mm to 30 mm, built for the short, thick blanks used in standup big-game fishing. A standup rod is fought from a harness with the angler leaning back, so load runs vertically down a deeply bent blank at close to full drag, and it stays there. Nothing about that resembles casting. Guides for it need a heavy frame on a wide, long foot, because the wrap has to hold against pressure that never lets up. The ladder skipping 10 mm fits a standup train: a few large frames to take line off the reel, then a short run of small ones to the tip.

How To Build With It
- Placing the first two frames — Set the 30 mm and 25 mm on the butt section and check clearance with the reel in a fighting position, not flat on the bench.
- Short, steep reduction — Move from 20 mm to 16 mm and then 12 mm over a short span, and run only the 8 mm frames on the last stretch to the tip.
- Testing at fighting curve — Static-test with enough weight to bend the blank to its real fighting arc. A standup blank spends its working life near that curve, so guide spacing should be judged there.
- Wrapping for full drag — Wrap both feet the whole length of the ramp with no gap at the toe, then finish in two thin epoxy coats; a short wrap is the first thing to lift.
