American Tackle Ring Lock Casting Chrome Guide 64DCRLC
This is the chrome version of the 64 Ring Lock casting guide, and it carries the widest ring ladder on the casting side of the range: 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20 mm, one size more than the black 64DBRLC. That extra 20 mm step is the reason to choose it: a 20 mm first guide gives a leader knot somewhere to go, so an FG or PR connection on a heavier casting or overhead build is not catching on every cast. Ring Lock is American Tackle's patented ring seat (US Patent D627,032), described by the maker as a pressure-fit ring in an enlarged glue reservoir with increased contact area around the ring.

How To Build With It
- Sizing for a leader knot — Tie your actual FG or PR knot, then pull it through a 20 mm and a 16 mm ring by hand. Whichever passes without a click is the stripper size for that rod, not the one on paper.
- Two-stage reduction — On heavier builds go 20 to 16 to 12 mm over the first third of the blank, then hold 10, 8 and 6 mm to the tip. Reducing too fast piles friction into one guide. Static test the taped train under a hanging weight before any epoxy.
- Lighter builds — Skip the 20 mm entirely, start at 12 mm and run a long train of 8 and 6 mm guides, the layout of most bass and light inshore casting rods.
- Saltwater care — Rinse chrome frames in fresh water after salt use; salt drying at the ring seat starts corrosion under the finish.
