American Tackle Hard 3FT Rod Guide Chrome Casting 64HLCC

A rod-building component, not a finished rod: a single American Tackle 64HLCC guide in chrome, sold singly in eight ring sizes from 8 mm to 40 mm. The "3FT" is a three-foot frame — three legs bonded to the blank instead of two, so the load of a hard cast spreads over more graphite and the frame resists the sideways twist that flattens a two-leg guide. This is the chrome member of a pair: the black 64HLC is the same three-leg frame in a dark finish. Choose between them on the hardware you are matching and the sizes you need — the two ladders are not identical.

• Finish — Chrome reads bright against pale and natural-finish blanks and matches polished hardware; the black 64HLC disappears into dark blanks and matte builds. On a rod where every fitting is one colour, that decides it.
• Sizes — Chrome runs 8 mm to 40 mm; black runs 6 mm to 30 mm. A 6 mm tip-end running guide is a black-only size, while 20 mm and 40 mm are chrome-only.
• Care — Both are plated. Rinse the guide train in fresh water after every salt session and dry it before storage.

How To Build With It

• Casting trains — A level-wind spool pays line off in a near-straight path, so start at 16 or 12 mm, then run 10 and 8 mm over most of the blank.
• Using the big sizes — The 25, 30 and 40 mm rings are spinning stripper territory, where the cone off a fixed spool must be gathered. The same three-leg frame covers both jobs.
• Guide count and spacing — Roughly one guide per foot of blank plus one, then static test: hang a weight from the tip and slide the taped guides until the line follows the curve with no flat spot.
• Wrapping three feet — File each foot ramp so thread climbs without a step, wrap all three legs, and finish in two thin epoxy coats rather than one thick one.
