Z-Man GrubZ 2" x 8Pcs / 2.5" x 8Pcs / 3.5" x 6Pcs Soft Lure Curly Tail Soft Bait
The GrubZ is the plainest and most useful shape in the Z-Man range: a segmented, ribbed body with a slim tapered curly tail. Nothing about it is specialised, which is why it works — thread one onto a jig head, wind slowly, and the tail turns over at speeds where a paddletail is still dead in the water. It is the easiest bait here for a newcomer to get right: there is no cadence to learn. Z-Man rates ElaZtech at 10X the durability of ordinary soft plastic and rates it as buoyant, so the tail keeps rolling on the drop. Three sizes — 2" and 2.5" at eight per pack, 3.5" at six per pack — across twelve colours.
Key Features
- Segmented, ribbed grub body with a slim tapered curly tail
- Tail turns at very slow retrieve speeds and on light jig heads
- Buoyant material keeps it working on the fall as well as the wind
- ElaZtech, rated by Z-Man at 10X tougher than ordinary soft plastic
- Fishes alone or as a jig, spinnerbait or bladed-jig trailer
- 2" — 8 per pack; 2.5" — 8 per pack; 3.5" — 6 per pack; twelve colours
How To Fish It
- Slow retrieve on a jig head — The one to start with. Cast, count down to the depth holding fish, then wind just fast enough to feel the tail turning through the rod. A steady rhythm means the speed is right.
- Lift and drop — Raise the rod tip to about 10 o'clock and let the grub glide back on a semi-slack line. The tail works through the fall, so bites register as a tick rather than a pull.
- Jig trailer — Thread a 3.5" body onto a skirted, swim or bladed jig to add a rolling tail and slow the fall, deflecting it off timber and rock.
- Vertical and drop shot — Fish the 2" and 2.5" bodies straight down around jetty pilings and drop-offs, shaking the rod tip so the tail flutters on the spot.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Hampala barb (sebarau) and peacock bass in reservoirs on a 3.5" body, barramundi (siakap) and mangrove jack around jetty pilings, plus small grouper and trevally on the 2" and 2.5".
- North America — Crappie, bluegill and perch on the 2" body, walleye and smallmouth bass on a 2.5" or 3.5" grub over rock, plus inshore speckled trout, redfish and flounder.
- Japan & East Asia — Rockfish (mebaru, kasago) and horse mackerel on ajing and light game tackle, plus small seabass and flathead (kochi) from harbour walls.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, flathead and Australian bass in estuaries; perch, zander and small pike in Europe; queenfish and small grouper on Gulf breakwaters.
