The BatwingZ is a compact craw-style trailer built around two broad, flat, textured pinchers. Z-Man rates the ElaZtech material as naturally buoyant, so those wing-shaped claws lift and hold up off the bottom whenever the lure stops — mimicking the defensive posture of a crawfish and turning an ordinary jig into a stand-up jig. On the fall the flat wings plane and flutter rather than dropping straight, slowing the descent and giving a following fish time to decide. Z-Man rates the 10X Tough construction as resisting tearing, and the body shape rigs several ways beyond its main job as a trailer. Supplied 2.75", six per pack, eight colours.

How To Fish It

• Flipping jig trailer — Thread it onto a flipping or casting jig, pitch to timber, pylons and mat edges, and let it settle. The claws stand upright while the jig sits, so leave it several seconds before hopping.
• Finesse jig on a slow fall — On a light finesse or ball-head jig, cast down a rock wall and follow the line as it falls. The flat wings slow the descent and most takes register as the line jumping sideways.
• Swim jig trailer — Behind a small swim jig or bladed jig, the wings kick with the vibration and add profile without killing the swimming action.
• Texas rigged — Rig on a worm hook with a light bullet weight and crawl it over rock and gravel, pausing often so the claws wave above the bottom.

• Southeast Asia — Hampala barb (sebarau) and peacock bass on jig trailers along reservoir rock walls, giant snakehead (toman) flipped into timber, mangrove jack and estuary grouper over rubble.
• North America — Largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass as a jig or bladed jig trailer on rock, brush and grass; useful in clear, pressured water where a full-size craw gets refused.
• Japan & East Asia — Largemouth bass (blackbass) on Japanese reservoirs, where a small buoyant craw trailer on a finesse jig suits heavily pressured, clear-water fisheries.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Australian bass, golden perch and Murray cod on jigs around timber and rock bars; perch, zander and chub in European rivers, lakes and canals.
