Yozuri Crystal Minnow Egi 90mm / 130mm F1025 / F1027 Sinking Squid Lure

This is neither a normal minnow nor a normal egi — it is a hybrid of the two, built for squid rather than fish. The body is a Crystal Minnow: a slim, holographic baitfish profile that flashes like a fleeing fish, which is what makes a squid commit from a distance in clear water. The tail carries twin stainless steel crown hooks instead of trebles — the ring of upturned barbs used on squid jigs, designed to hold soft tentacles without tearing them. It sinks, so you fish it by count-down like an egi. F1025 at 90mm and 10g suits light shore work; F1027 at 130mm and 29g handles deeper water, current and boat drifts.

How To Fish It (Eging, Not Minnow Fishing)

• Cast and count the fall — Squid take on the sink, not the retrieve. Let the lure fall on a semi-slack line while you count; start at ten and add five counts each cast until you find the layer. If the line stops, ticks or drifts sideways, a squid is on.
• Shakuri (whipping) cadence — Tip low, snap it sharply upward two to four times so the lure darts and flashes, then stop dead, drop the tip and let it fall. The jerk gets attention; the fall is what catches. Never work it like a minnow on a steady retrieve.
• Sweep, do not strike — On weight, lean into a long smooth sweep and keep constant pressure all the way in. A hard hookset or a slack moment pulls the crowns out of the tentacles, so never pump the rod.
• Shore and jetty work — Fan cast over seagrass, weed beds and rock edges on a moving tide, and work the edge of jetty lights after dark where squid hunt the bait drawn to the glow.
• Boat drift and slow troll — On a drift, drop to depth, lift twice and hold still while the lure swings back. Trolled slowly, the 130mm covers reef edges.

• Southeast Asia — Bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) on candat sotong trips off Terengganu, Johor and Sabah, worked under boat lights, plus jetty squid behind kembung schools.
• North America — Market squid around Californian piers, harbour lights and kelp edges, fished down the pilings after dark.
• Japan & East Asia — Aoriika is the classic shore eging target, with kensaki-ika taken on boat drifts and tip-run; the same approach is used in Korea and Taiwan.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and cuttlefish over seagrass in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania; European squid and cuttlefish on Mediterranean eging marks.
