THE ANGLAR - ISEAMA HOOK PACK RINGED NSB 4170 FISHING HOOK
The Anglar Iseama Hook Pack Ringed NSB 4170 Fishing Hook
Iseama (イセアマ) is the workhorse bait shape of Japanese and Asian fishing — a round, fairly deep bend with a slightly incurved point, so pressure loads onto the bend instead of levering the point back out of a jaw. The 4170 is Anglar’s bulk-pack version of it, and one detail separates it from most iseama hooks you will have used: the point is set straight in line with the eye rather than kirbed to one side. That matters in practice. A kirbed point catches a fish taking the bait side-on, but it also makes a long bait rotate in current. An inline point pulls in a straight line from knot to point — a cleaner, more direct hookset on a still bottom rig, and a threaded bait that sits dead straight.
The build is tournament-grade high-carbon steel, forged through the bend, with a chemically sharpened needle point and a solid ringed eye that takes a knot in heavy mono with no pressed edge to shave the line. The bright nickel finish is the traditional choice for fresh and brackish bait fishing: clean, corrosion resistant, with a faint flash that does no harm beside a pale bait. Sixteen sizes run #3 to #20, and the packs are generous — 20 hooks up to #8, tapering to 6 at #20 — so this is a box hook you can afford to lose in snags.
Key Features
- Classic iseama profile: round deep bend, slightly incurved point that resists shedding
- Straight inline point — direct pull from the knot, and baits that sit straight
- Forged bend to resist opening under load
- Chemically sharpened needle point with a sharp retaining barb
- Solid ringed eye for knots, snells and leader connections
- Tournament-grade high-carbon steel with a bright nickel finish
- Sixteen sizes, #3 to #20, at up to 20 hooks per pack
How To Rig It
- Pond and reservoir bait rig (kolam pancing) — Light running lead or a small float, short trace, and paste, pellet, bread or prawn. Let the rod tip load as the fish moves off; the incurved point sets itself.
- Running sinker on the bottom — Egg sinker above a swivel with a 50–100 cm leader for estuary and jetty work with worm, squid strip or cut fish.
- Threading a long bait — Because the point is inline, a worm or a strip threaded up the shank hangs straight and will not helicopter on a drift; this is the rig that most suits this hook.
- Sliding float along walls — Fish it under a stopper down a breakwater or jetty face for bream and porgy that inspect a bait before taking it.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — The default pond and river hook: patin, rohu, tilapia, catfish (keli) and snakehead (haruan, toman) in paid ponds and reservoirs; the larger sizes for barramundi (siakap), croaker (gelama), catfish (duri) and small grouper (kerapu) off jetties and estuary mud.
- North America — Channel and blue catfish, carp, bullhead and panfish on dough, worm and cut baits; black drum and sheepshead around pilings.
- Japan & East Asia — Kurodai, madai and mejina from rock and breakwater, funa and koi in fresh water, and a standard shape in umi-tsuribori saltwater fishing ponds.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, whiting and estuary perch in Australia; safi and hamour in the Gulf; carp, tench, bream and catfish in European still waters and canals.

Sizes follow the Japanese gō (号) system: the number rises as the hook gets larger, the reverse of Western numbering. #3 is the smallest here and #20 the largest.
Recommended Pairing
