Shout Light Game Assist Hook 44 LG — Made In Japan
The 44-LG is Shout's light-game twin assist: a ready-to-use double-hook assembly for small metal jigs and shore casting, supplied with PE assist cord, press ring and split ring so it goes onto a jig in seconds. The hooks are Yaiba, chosen for penetration on light tackle, where you cannot drive a point home with force and the hook has to work on the fish's own take. The cord is deliberately short — long enough for the hooks to swing and find a fish, short enough that they do not wrap the jig on a long cast, which is the failure mode that costs shore anglers the most time.
Two hooks rather than one is the other half of the design. Small predators hit a light jig fast and often only half-connect; a twin gives a second point on the same take and holds fish that would otherwise shake free. The trade-off is more metal to tangle, which is why the short cord matters here.
Sizes run S, M, L and LL, with the cord specified to the size: S and M use 100 lb PE, L and LL use 120 lb PE, per Shout's own specifications. Two sets per pack.
Key Features
- Ready-to-use twin assist for light-game shore casting and small metal jigs
- Sharp Yaiba hooks for penetration on light tackle
- Short PE assist cord to minimise tangling with the jig
- Supplied with PE line, press ring and split ring
- Twin configuration improves hook-up rate and holds fish through the fight
- 100 lb PE on S and M; 120 lb PE on L and LL
- Four sizes: S, M, L and LL
- Two sets per pack
How To Rig It
- Front mount on a small jig — Hang the assembly at the nose of the jig on the supplied split ring. Shore fish take a rising or fluttering jig from in front, which is where the twin points need to be.
- Points facing outward — Set the two hooks so the points face away from each other and from the jig body. Points turned inward foul the jig and each other on the cast.
- Keep the cord short on long casts — This rig is built for distance casting from breakwaters and beaches, and cord length is the whole tangle question — do not extend it.
- Size to the jig, not the fish — S and M for 15–30 g casting jigs; L and LL for 30–60 g. An oversized assist on a small jig deadens the flutter that draws the strike.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Small gerepoh (giant trevally), queenfish, barracuda and tenggiri (Spanish mackerel) from breakwaters, jetties and rock walls.
- North America — Striped bass, bluefish, Spanish mackerel and jack crevalle on surf and pier casting jigs; rockfish on the Pacific coast.
- Japan & East Asia — Shore jigging and light shore jigging for kingfish, sawara, seabass (suzuki) and small buri — the fishery this rig is named for.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Tailor, salmon and small kingfish off Australian rocks; queenfish and small trevally in the Gulf; bass, mackerel and pollack on European shore marks.
