SFT Sea Hunt 21g / 24g / 30g Hardbody Lure

The Sea Hunt is SFT's heavy-duty saltwater casting minnow, built on a laser-cut stainless-steel skeleton rated to 300 lb break strain — construction SFT rates to handle fish over 100 lb. The flattened tail section is the key detail: it widens and stabilises the action, giving the wide rolling motion SFT specifies rather than a tight wobble. A low-gravity counterweight adds distance, and SFT quotes a maximum cast of 70 m on PE #2 with a 30 lb leader. Owner Cultivar trebles and SFT power rings complete the build.

Key Features

  • Stainless-steel laser-cut skeleton, 300 lb break strain, rated to handle fish over 100 lb
  • Flattened tail section for a wider, more stable action
  • Wide rolling swimming action
  • Low-gravity counterweight; maximum cast of 70 m on PE #2 with a 30 lb leader
  • OWNER ST56-#2 trebles on the 115 models
  • SFT Power Combine Ring #3 40 lb and Power Split Ring #4 50 lb

How To Fish It

  • Cast and steady retrieve — Wind at constant medium speed so the flattened tail keeps the body rolling wide. The floating models work the top 1.2 to 1.5 m; the sinking model runs deeper.
  • Countdown with the 24 g sinker — Count it down after the splash, two seconds then four then six, until you find the feeding band, then repeat that count every cast.
  • Twitch and pause — Two or three sharp sweeps, then stop. The floating models rise on the pause and the sinking model drops; either change of direction draws following fish.
  • Work the current line — Cast up-current and swing the lure across the seam slowly. Barramundi and trevally sit on the slack side of a run-off and take as it crosses.

Choosing the model. Start with depth and flow. The 21 g floating 115 is the shallow-water and structure choice — mangrove edges, rock ledges and reef flats where a sinker would hang up, and it rides over snags on the pause. The 24 g sinking 115 suits deeper water, a running tide or a headwind, holding depth when current tries to lift the lure. The 30 g floating 135 casts furthest and shows the biggest profile: use it in wind, from high ledges, and when fish are on larger bait. If the lure skates or is pushed off line, go heavier.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Barramundi (siakap) on mangrove edges and river mouths, queenfish (talang) and trevally (gerepoh) off rock walls, Spanish mackerel (tenggiri) on the faster retrieve, plus grouper (kerapu) near reef.
  • North America — Striped bass, bluefish and snook from jetties and beaches, redfish on inshore structure, plus amberjack and snapper around nearshore reef.
  • Japan & East Asia — Shore casting for seabass (suzuki) at harbour mouths, hirame and buri from surf and rock marks.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi, queenfish and kingfish in northern Australia; hamour on Gulf marks; bass and pollack on European coasts.
