The SFT Little Smart is a compact skirted jig head for light game and finesse fishing, where a full-size jig is simply too much lure. The sculpted head, silicone skirt, extended strands and SFT Original worm hook make a small prey-like package that rolls and swings through the retrieve rather than tracking dead straight. The head climbs over rock and uneven bottom with less tendency to hang up, while the long trailing strands imitate fins and shrimp feelers. Fresh or salt water, five weights.

How To Fish It

• Slow swim — Count it down to the depth holding fish and wind just fast enough to feel the head rolling. The default over weed edges, drop-offs and jetty pylons.
• Bottom hop — Short lifts of the tip, then let it fall back on a controlled line. Takes register as a tick or a line that stops falling early, so watch the braid.
• Free fall on structure — Drop it tight to a pylon or rock face on semi-slack line. The skirt flares on the drop and pulls bites from fish sitting still.
• Drag and shake — Keep bottom contact and shake without moving the head far, for cold or clear water when fish will not chase.

Choosing the weight. 3.5 g for shallow, still water inside about 2 m — canal edges, flats and calm jetty corners. 5 g for roughly 2 to 4 m with light current. 7 g for 4 to 6 m, moderate flow or a working breeze. 10.5 g for 6 to 9 m, a running tide, or casting distance into wind. 14 g for deeper water, hard current, or fishing straight down beside structure. Always use the lightest head that still lets you feel bottom.

• Southeast Asia — Barramundi (siakap) and mangrove jack on jetties and mangrove edges, small grouper (kerapu) and snapper (merah) on rock walls, hampala barb (sebarau) in reservoirs.
• North America — Largemouth and smallmouth bass on the finesse weights; inshore redfish, speckled trout and flounder on the 7 g to 14 g heads.
• Japan & East Asia — Light game for rockfish (mebaru, kasago) and small seabass around harbour walls and breakwaters.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream and flathead in Australian estuaries; small hamour and queenfish on Gulf flats; perch and zander in European lakes and canals.
