Santec Wishiwashi 4cm Squid Soft Bait

The Santec Wishiwashi (model 35924) is a compact luminous squid-style soft bait measuring 40 mm and supplied ten pieces to a pack. Its slim body and finely divided skirt create a soft pulsing action when jigged, lifted, dropped or simply moved by the current, so it keeps working on a dead-slow presentation. Glitter particles add flashes that imitate the reflective scales of small baitfish, while the luminous material improves visibility in dark water, deep water and low-light conditions. At this size it fills three roles bigger squid skirts cannot: a light-game lure in its own right, a replacement skirt for a tairaba or inchiku head, and a dressing on a micro jig or assist hook.

How To Fish It

• Micro jig head, light game — Rig on a 1–5 g head, cast around ports, breakwaters and rock walls, then lift and drop slowly. Bites come as the skirt flares on the fall.
• Tairaba or inchiku skirt replacement — Thread one or two bodies onto the head in place of a torn factory skirt. Drop to the bottom and wind slowly and steadily with no rod movement.
• Assist hook and jig dressing — Slide a body onto the assist cord of a metal jig or a sabiki to add a soft luminous silhouette to a hard, flashing lure.
• Static in current — On a dropper above a sinker, let the tide work the skirt while bait sits below. No retrieve needed.
• Charge before dropping — Hold a torch against the body for ten to twenty seconds and recharge every few drops; the glow fades under water.

• Southeast Asia — Squid and cuttlefish under lit jetties at night, small grouper (kerapu) and snapper (merah) on reef edges, small trevally on light jig heads.
• North America — Sea bass, scup and rockfish on inshore structure; a skirt dressing on bucktails for fluke and school striped bass.
• Japan & East Asia — A natural fit for tairaba and inchiku for madai, and for ajing and mebaring on light game tackle in ports; also used as a tenya dressing.
