Santec Wire Spreader 6232 Stainless Steel Bottom Fishing Spreader

The Santec Wire Spreader 6232 is a stainless-steel arm that holds a dropper leader out and away from the main line and the sinker. On a plain bottom rig the trace has nothing to keep it clear: as the sinker falls, or as current pushes the bait back, the dropper wraps the main line and the bait fishes in a knot. The 6232 solves that mechanically — the long curved arm carries the hook leader away from the centre of the rig, the centre clip takes the sinker, and the top swivel lets the frame rotate with the current instead of storing twist. SUS304 stainless steel gives strength and corrosion resistance.

Within the Santec range the 6232 is the bare mid-length single-arm model, 30–60 cm, uncoated wire. Model 6231 is the coated single-arm version in 40–80 cm; model 6239 is a T-frame with its own lower sinker swivel, out to 90 cm.

How To Fish It

• Basic paternoster — Main line to the top swivel, sinker to the centre clip, a 30–60 cm hook leader to the end clip. Lower to the bottom, take up slack until you feel the lead, then fish with the line just loaded.
• Match the arm to the current — 30–40 cm in slack water or where casting range matters; 50–60 cm when current is running or a long trace keeps folding back onto the lead.
• Surf casting — Cast smoothly rather than snapping the rod, so the sinker leads the loaded arm through the air.
• Live bait from a boat — Drop a live bait on the arm to structure. The spreader stops it spinning up the main line, the usual failure of a plain dropper loop.

Recommended Pairing

• 30–40 cm: light bottom or jetty rods, 10–20 lb line, 1–3 oz sinkers
• 50–60 cm: medium to heavy boat or surf rods, 20–50 lb line or PE 2–4 braid
• Fluorocarbon or heavy mono hook leaders; add a short wire trace where mackerel or barracuda are present
• Rinse in fresh water after saltwater use to keep the clips and swivel moving
