Santec Wire Spreader 6231 Coated Wire Bottom Fishing Spreader
The Santec Wire Spreader 6231 is a long curved wire arm that stands a baited leader off to one side of a bottom rig, so the trace cannot wrap the main line as the sinker falls or fold back onto the weight in current. The top swivel takes the main line and lets the frame rotate rather than store twist, a side clip carries the sinker, and the end clip holds the hook leader out at the far end of the curve. What sets the 6231 apart is the protective coloured coating over the upper wire section: it keeps the fishing line off bare metal where it sits against the frame, and makes the spreader easy to pick out of a tackle box. The curve also flexes, absorbing current and fish movement instead of passing it straight to the knot.
Compared to the range: 6232 is the same single-arm idea in bare wire at 30–60 cm, and 6239 is a T-frame with a separate lower sinker swivel out to 90 cm. The 6231 is the coated long-arm option, 40–80 cm.
Key Features
- Long curved arm holds the hook leader clear of sinker and main line
- Protective coloured coating on the upper wire section
- Coating reduces friction between the fishing line and bare metal
- Built-in top swivel for smoother rotation on the cast and retrieve
- Central clip for the sinker; end clip for quick hook-leader changes
- Four lengths, 40–80 cm, for medium to heavy bottom rigs
How To Fish It
- Standard bottom rig — Main line to the top swivel, sinker to the side clip, hook leader to the end clip. Drop, feel the lead land, then hold a light load so you register the tap.
- Long-arm work — The 70–80 cm arms suit running current and long traces, where a short spreader lets the leader wash back onto the lead. Drop to 40–50 cm in slack water.
- Jetty and estuary bait fishing — Lower rather than cast in confined spots so the loaded arm settles straight and the trace stays clear.
- Live bait presentation — A live prawn or small baitfish on the arm swims in open water instead of spinning around the main line, and stays lively longer.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Grouper (kerapu), snapper (merah), threadfin (senangin), catfish (duri) and mangrove jack from jetties, river mouths and boats.
- North America — Redfish, black drum, flounder and sheepshead inshore; catfish and walleye on freshwater bottom rigs.
- Japan & East Asia — Serves as a tenbin arm for kisu, karei and kasago from breakwaters and small boats.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Snapper, flathead and bream in Australian estuaries; sheri in the Gulf; bass and cod on European beaches.
