Santec Twist Squid Jig Cloth 80g / 120g

The Twist Squid Jig Cloth is a weighted, cloth-wrapped squid jig for fishing straight down — the heavy end of squid tackle, where a light egi simply blows out of position. The body is covered in UV-reflective cloth, which holds its brightness at depth and in low light better than a painted finish, and it twists as it falls so it moves like an injured shrimp rather than dropping dead-straight. The hooks are corrosion-resistant stainless steel. At 80 g and 120 g it doubles as its own sinker: it can be dropped alone on a deep mark, or run as the weighted bottom jig with lighter cloth sutte on droppers above it.

Key Features

  • UV-reflective cloth-wrapped body for visibility in deep, dark and stained water
  • Twisting fall that imitates a wounded shrimp or small baitfish
  • Corrosion-resistant stainless steel hooks
  • Two weights, 80 g and 120 g, heavy enough to fish without an added sinker
  • Eight UV colour patterns from bright rainbow through to red head and lime green
  • Works dropped vertically, drifted, or fished as the lead jig on a dropper rig

How To Fish It

  • Choose the weight for depth and tide — 80 g is the choice for moderate depth and light to medium current, where a slower fall gives squid longer on the drop to commit. 120 g is for deep marks, strong tide and windy drifts, when the lighter jig starts to sweep away from vertical and you lose contact with the bottom.
  • Drop, lift and hold — Drop to the bottom, take up slack, then lift smoothly through three to five winds and stop dead for five to ten seconds. Squid come on the pause and the fall. If nothing happens, work upward in stages rather than sitting on the bottom.
  • Run sutte above it — Tie one or two lighter cloth sutte on short branch lines 30–50 cm apart above the jig. The weighted jig sets the depth and the rhythm; the droppers often take the squid.
  • Recharge the UV cloth — Give the jig 20–30 seconds under the deck light or a UV torch before every drop; UV and glow finishes fade after a few minutes underwater.
  • No strike, one steady speed — A take feels like sudden extra weight. Lean into it to load the rod, then wind evenly all the way up without pumping — slack line is how squid are lost on the way to the surface.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Sotong torak (bigfin reef squid) and sotong katak (cuttlefish) on night candat sotong trips over reef edges and wrecks, and octopus (kurita) taken on the drop close to the bottom.
  • North America — Market squid and Humboldt squid on Pacific night trips, and squid caught deliberately as fresh bait ahead of rockfish, halibut or tuna sessions.
  • Japan & East Asia — Kensaki-ika and yariika on ika-metal boats, where a weighted jig of this class is the standard bottom lead above cloth sutte droppers.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Arrow squid and southern calamari from deep jetties and boats; cuttlefish on Gulf marks; European squid and cuttlefish on Mediterranean night grounds.
