Santec Slim Sutte Squid Hook 3632

A sutte is not an egi. An egi is the weighted shrimp jig you cast and glide back on the fall; a sutte is the slim barrel bait fished on a branch line off a vertical rig, usually above a sinker or a weighted metal jig. The 3632 is the slim-bodied version of that pattern — a compact 6.5 cm luminous jig built for night fishing, boat work and light squid jigging. Its narrow section is the point of the design: less water resistance means it sinks faster, holds its position in current instead of kiting off, and answers a short rod lift immediately rather than lagging behind it. The textured finish, glow-edged eye and luminous body give squid a prey-shaped target in dark water, and two multi-prong crowns at the rear catch tentacles as the squid closes on it.

Key Features

  • Slim 6.5 cm body — lower water resistance, faster sink, better control in current
  • Luminous glow finish that charges under a deck light or UV torch
  • Realistic glow-edged eye and textured outer finish
  • Two multi-prong squid hook crowns at the rear for tentacle contact
  • Stainless steel front attachment ring for a secure leader connection
  • Four colours: Blue, Orange, Red Head and White

How To Fish It

  • Where the slim body wins — Run the 3632 when the tide is hard, when you are fishing deep and want the rig down quickly, or when squid pick at a fuller-bodied sutte without committing. A broad sutte with feather fins gives more movement and a bigger silhouette; the slim body trades that for speed, control and a smaller profile.
  • On a dropper above the weight — Tie it to a short branch line 30–50 cm above a sinker or a weighted metal squid jig. The lead sets depth and rhythm; the sutte is usually what gets grabbed. Two spaced droppers fish two depths at once.
  • Lift, then hold — Lift smoothly through three to five winds, then stop dead and hold for five to ten seconds. Squid come on the pause and the fall, never on the lift. Work upward in stages until you find the layer holding fish.
  • Lean into it, wind at one speed — A squid hugs the bait with its arms; the take just feels heavy, or the tip fails to spring back. Load the rod slowly and wind steadily all the way in. Do not pump and do not strike — the crowns are barbless and slack line loses squid.
  • Recharge the glow — 20–30 seconds under a lamp or UV torch before each drop, and again whenever the glow dulls.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Sotong torak (bigfin reef squid) and sotong katak (cuttlefish) on night candat sotong trips under boat lights over reef edges, wrecks and jetty ground.
  • North America — Market squid on Pacific piers and night boats, taken for the table and as fresh bait.
  • Japan & East Asia — Kensaki-ika and yariika on ika-metal rigs, where a slim sutte on a dropper above the metal lead jig is standard practice; also fished in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and arrow squid from boats and deep jetties; cuttlefish on Gulf marks; European squid on Mediterranean night grounds.
