SANTEC - RS ROUND SHAPE WEIGHT SINKER FISHING LEAD
Santec RS Round Shape Weight Sinker
The Santec RS is a round lead — a plain sphere, the most predictable sinker shape there is. A ball carries the smallest surface area for its mass, so it drops fast and straight — useful when the bait must reach bottom before the current sweeps it off the mark. The same roundness is its limit: with no flats or edges to bite, it rolls in a strong tide instead of holding station, so it belongs in still to moderate water. What it does better than any gripping shape has come home again — a sphere has nothing to wedge, so it rides out of rock cracks and gravel where a grip lead would jam. Six sizes, RS-1 to RS-6, in stated diameters from 5.5 mm to 14.2 mm.
Key Features
- Plain round (ball) lead body, low drag, for a fast and straight descent
- Least likely of the common sinker shapes to wedge in rock and gravel
- Six sizes, RS-1 to RS-6
- Per-size packs, from 23 pieces in RS-1 down to 6 in RS-6
How To Rig It
- Running bottom rig — Set the lead above a swivel and run a 40–100 cm leader to the hook. The bait works clear of the weight, and the lead drops out of snags rather than sticking in them.
- Sizing by diameter, not by code — No weight is printed on the pack, so diameter is what you size by. Weight climbs with the cube of diameter, so RS-6 at 14.2 mm is many times heavier than RS-1 at 5.5 mm, not six times. Step up one code at a time and go up again if the lead creeps down tide.
- Bottom type — Best over rock, coral edges, gravel and rubble. On hard sand in a running tide, it rolls, so a flat or diamond lead holds better there.
Bottom Fishing By Region
- Southeast Asia — Rocky jetty, breakwater and reef-edge bottom fishing for grouper, mangrove jack and catfish (ikan duri); small codes for pond and canal rigs for tilapia.
- North America — Finesse bottom weights for bass and walleye, and small rigs for panfish and trout over rocky lake beds and river runs.
- Japan & East Asia — Dou-tsuki (胴突き仕掛け) dropper rigs worked tight to breakwater rock for kasago and mebaru, where a snagging lead would cost the whole rig.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Estuary and rock-wall rigs for bream and flathead; Gulf inshore rigs for emperor over coral rubble; European ledgering for perch, roach and bream.
