SANTEC - OB LONG LEAD SINKER FISHING LEAD
Santec OB Long Lead Sinker Fishing Lead
The Santec OB is a long lead sinker with an elongated, olive-like body — thickest through the middle, tapering away at both ends, with the line passing through the centre. It is the everyday running sinker for bait fishing: slim enough to drop without kiting off, smooth enough that line runs freely when a fish picks the bait up, and long enough that it does not roll around like a ball on uneven bottom. Nine sizes are offered, OL-1 (3g) through OL-9 (80g), so one spread covers everything from a still canal to a deep tidal channel.
Key Features
- Elongated olive body with a centre through-hole for running rigs
- Smooth bore lets line pass freely so a fish feels little resistance
- Nine sizes, OL-1 (3g) to OL-9 (80g), weight rising with the code
- Per-size packs, from 14 pieces in OL-1 down to 3 in OL-9
How To Rig It
- Running sinker rig — Thread the OB on the main line, add a bead, tie to a swivel with a 40–100 cm leader below. The lead sits on the bottom and the fish moves off with the bait before it loads up. The core rig for estuary, river and jetty bait fishing.
- Carolina style — Same layout with a longer leader and a soft plastic instead of bait. Drag the lead slowly so it kicks up silt and the plastic trails behind.
- Choosing the size — OL-1 (3g) to OL-3 (10g) for shallow, still or slow water and light rods: ponds, canals, sheltered jetties. OL-4 (18g) to OL-6 (35g) for moderate depth, a running tide, or a longer cast. OL-7 (48g) to OL-9 (80g) for deep water, strong current and casting into wind. If the lead creeps downtide, go up one code.
- Bottom type — The rounded body suits sand, gravel and light weed. Over soft mud keep it moving or it beds in.
Bottom Fishing By Region
- Southeast Asia — Mangrove-edge and jetty bottom fishing for barramundi (siakap), mangrove jack, catfish (ikan duri) and grouper; small codes are standard for pond and canal fishing for tilapia and freshwater catfish (ikan keli).
- North America — The classic Carolina rig weight for largemouth bass, plus surf and pier rigs for pompano, whiting and redfish.
- Japan & East Asia — Nage-zuri (投げ釣り) beach rigs for kisu and karei, and dou-tsuki (胴突き仕掛け) dropper rigs from breakwater and boat for kasago and mebaru.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Estuary and beach running rigs for bream, whiting, flathead and mulloway; Gulf shore rigs for emperor; European pier fishing for cod, dab and flounder.
