Santec Jig Head 7g / 8g / 10g Soft Plastic Jig Head

The Santec jig head is the weighted hook that turns a soft plastic into a working lure — it supplies casting weight, sets how fast the lure sinks, and holds the body in a straight swimming position. Two models are offered, each in small packs, covering a narrow band of 7 g, 8 g and 10 g. That band is the everyday inshore and light freshwater bracket: heavy enough to cast a small paddle tail into wind and hold bottom in moderate current, light enough that the lure still glides on the drop. Carrying two or three weights lets you change sink rate as conditions change, without changing lure.

How To Fish It

• Match weight to depth and current — 7 g in shallow water, slack tide and still reservoirs for a slow gliding fall; 8 g in moderate flow; 10 g when the tide runs, wind bows the line, or you need depth quickly.
• Lift and drop — Count the lure down to the holding depth, lift the rod tip to about 10 o'clock, and let it flutter back on a semi-slack line. Most bites come on the drop, so watch for a tick.
• Slow roll — Wind just fast enough to keep a paddle tail thumping and the head just off the bottom. This is the retrieve for barramundi and jack along mangrove edges.
• Rigging and knot — Thread the body on centred and check it swims straight; a crooked plastic spins and twists the line. Tie braid direct with a Palomar, or a loop knot on a fluorocarbon leader.

• Southeast Asia — Barramundi (siakap), mangrove jack and queenfish around jetties and mangrove edges; hampala barb (sebarau) and peacock bass in reservoirs.
• North America — Redfish, speckled trout and flounder on inshore flats; largemouth bass and walleye in lakes and rivers.
• Japan & East Asia — Light game work for seabass (suzuki), flathead (kochi) and small hirame from beaches and harbour walls.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Flathead, bream and Australian bass in estuaries; queenfish on Gulf flats; perch, zander and pike in European canals.

Recommended Pairing

• 7 g and 8 g: light spinning outfit, 8–15 lb braid with a 12–20 lb fluorocarbon leader, small paddle tail or grub bodies
• 10 g: medium spinning outfit, 15–30 lb braid with a 20–30 lb leader, larger paddle tails and jerk shads around structure
