Jakiro is Santec's large soft minnow, a long slim baitfish profile made to be fished weightless or lightly weighted rather than wound on a jig head. The 7" is the serious end of the range — a big, slow-moving silhouette for fish that have stopped reacting to small lures, sold four to a pack with two sets of 8/0 weedless hooks on Kevlar line. The 4" Jakiro Junior is the same shape scaled down, sold five to a pack with two sets of 5/0 weedless hooks on Kevlar line, for the same presentations on lighter tackle. Both run a wide color range from natural black gold and pearl white through fluorescent pink and yellow to glow.

How To Fish It

• Weightless soft jerkbait — On the 8/0 weedless hook, twitch the rod tip down twice and pause. The body darts left and right, then hangs — that hanging pause is what triggers big fish which followed without committing.
• Long-cast search from shore — The 7" carries well into a headwind off breakwaters and river mouths. Fan-cast, retrieve in slow sweeps and cover ground rather than working one spot.
• Sink and rise over snags — Let it settle beside submerged timber, then lift with a slow sweep so it climbs and glides back down. Keep the line semi-slack to feel the drop.
• Junior on light gear — Rig the 4" on a weedless hook or light head and fish the same twitch-and-pause in creeks, drains and around jetty pilings.

Target Species By Region

• Southeast Asia — The 7" is a toman (giant snakehead) and barramundi (siakap) bait first, plus mangrove jack and trevally on offshore casts; the 4" covers haruan, peacock bass and hampala barb (sebarau).
• North America — Big largemouth bass, pike and muskie on the 7" fished weightless over grass; striped bass and redfish on the coast; smallmouth on the 4".
• Japan & East Asia — Seabass (suzuki) on river-mouth and harbour casts and hirame over sand; the 7" suits shore casting for larger seabass.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Barramundi in northern impoundments, Murray cod around timber; queenfish and barracuda on Gulf flats; pike and zander in European lakes.
