Santec Foldable Crab Trap 8 / 12 Holes Fishing Net Trap

A collapsible baited trap for crabs, prawns, lobster and small fish, on a corrosion-resistant steel frame covered in high-strength nylon mesh. It folds flat for carrying and opens with a pull-string, so it is baited and dropped within seconds. Entry holes sit around the full circumference rather than on one face, so it fishes from every direction. Take the 8-hole for a simpler trap that clears quickly, or the 12-hole for more entry points at once.

How To Use It

• Baiting — Use oily, strong-smelling bait: fish heads and frames, mackerel or sardine, chicken carcass or necks. Tie it into the centre or into a bait bag so crabs must work at it inside instead of dragging it out through a hole.
• Where to set it — Mangrove edges and creek mouths, jetty and wharf pilings, the edge of mudflats and sandbanks, rock walls. Crabs travel these edges, so a trap on the edge out-fishes one in open ground.
• Soak time — Give it roughly 30 to 60 minutes before the first check. If it produces, leave it longer; if it comes up empty twice, move it. Re-bait once the bait is picked clean.
• Working the tide — Crabs and prawns feed hardest on moving water. Set on the last of the run-in and fish the top of the tide and the first of the run-out, when they move onto flats and mangrove edges. Set deep enough to stay covered at low tide.
• Hauling — One smooth steady lift; a stop-start haul lets crabs find the holes on the way up.
