Santec Fishing Quill 3569 — 6g / 9g / 18g / 54g Casting Lure

The Santec 3569 Quill Casting is a weighted feather Casting lure for saltwater casting. A streamlined weighted head is thread-wrapped to a skirt of soft natural feathers: the head supplies the mass for a stable flight and a long cast, while the feathers breathe, flare and collapse with every twitch of the rod and every change in current. That soft, flowing movement is what a feather does better than a rigid lure — it keeps working when the retrieve slows or stops. The balanced head also keeps the lure tracking straight in the air rather than helicoptering, which matters casting into wind from a jetty or rock wall. It is offered in 6g, 9g, 18g and 54g so you can match casting distance, current strength and fishing depth to the tackle you are holding. Colors are supplied at random.

Key Features

  • Soft natural feather body with flowing underwater movement
  • Weighted head for casting momentum and distance
  • Streamlined head shape for smoother, more stable flight
  • Feather section thread-wrapped firmly to the head
  • Four weights: 6g, 9g, 18g and 54g
  • Suited to shore, jetty and boat casting in salt water

How To Fish It

  • Choosing the weight — 6g and 9g suit calm shallow inshore water and light tackle, where a slow sink keeps the feather in the top layers. 18g covers moderate current and longer casts. 54g is for strong tide, deeper water, headwinds and distant bait schools.
  • Cast and steady retrieve — Cast across the tide, count the lure down to the depth the fish are showing, and wind at a steady moderate pace so the feathers stay flared. Most hits come as it crosses the bait school.
  • Sink and draw — Let it drop on a controlled line, then lift the rod smartly and let it flutter back. Feathers open on the lift and pulse on the drop; takes usually come on the fall, so watch the line.
  • Fishing the current — From a jetty or breakwater, cast up-tide and let the lure swing down with the flow on a semi-tight line. The feather works on the current alone; just keep contact.
  • Deep water and boat work — Drop the 54g straight down over marked fish, lift and lower through the bait layer, and keep the rod low so the lure stays in the zone.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Queenfish, small trevally, torpedo scad (cencaru) and Spanish mackerel (tenggiri) from jetties, kelongs and rock walls, plus casting to breaking bait balls.
  • North America — Atlantic mackerel, bluefish, false albacore and school stripers from Northeast piers, jetties and party boats.
  • Japan & East Asia — Horse mackerel (aji), chub mackerel (saba) and small yellowtail (inada) from breakwaters, fished light in the style of shore casting and light shore jigging.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Australian salmon, tailor and slimy mackerel off ocean rocks; queenfish on Gulf breakwaters; mackerel, pollack and garfish from UK and European piers.
