Santec Crane Swivel Matt Black 7920

The Santec 7920 is a crane swivel in matt black, supplied in seven sizes from #6 through to #3/0. A crane swivel sits between a plain barrel and a ball-bearing swivel: it keeps turning under moderate load rather than binding, which is what a spinning blade, a drifting bait or a rolling sinker demands. Its job is to stop line twist reaching the reel, and to give one clean junction between main line and leader that can be changed quickly on the water. The matt black finish keeps flash down at the terminal end in clear water. Each size comes in its own small pack.

How To Fish It

• Main line to leader — Palomar to the top eye on braid, improved clinch to the leader below. Leader length or class then changes without retying the rig.
• Running sinker rigs — Thread the sinker on the main line and tie the swivel beneath it. The swivel becomes the stop and the bait works freely on the leader.
• Trolling and blades — Fit it between main line and any lure that rotates. Add a second swivel a metre up the leader if twist is severe.
• Choosing a size — Match the swivel to line class and lure weight, not to the fish you hope for. Undersize breaks off; oversize kills a light bait's action.
