SANTEC - CL CIGAR SINKER - CIGAR LEAD FISHING LEAD
Santec CL Cigar Sinker — Cigar Lead Fishing Lead
The Santec CL is a cigar-shaped lead: a long, slim body tapering to both ends. That shape is the whole point. A cigar lead presents far less frontal area than a ball or a flat sinker, so it sinks quickly on a near-vertical line, holds its heading in current instead of planning sideways, and slides through weed, timber and rock edges that would trap a wider lead. It also flies straight on a long cast. Supplied in eight sizes from CL-½ (18g) to CL-6 (141g) — the smaller the code, the more pieces in the pack.
Key Features
- Long, slim cigar profile — low water resistance, fast and straight sink
- Tapered nose and tail slide clear of snags better than a round or flat lead
- Eight sizes: CL-½ (18g), CL-1 (33g), CL-1½ (47g), CL-2 (60g), CL-3 (74g), CL-4 (95g), CL-5 (129g), CL-6 (141g)
- Per-size packs, from 8 pieces in the smallest to 3 in the largest
How To Rig It
- Running sinker above a swivel — Slide the lead on the main line, add a bead, tie to a swivel, then run 40–80 cm of leader to the hook. The standard estuary, river and jetty rig for live and cut bait.
- Long-cast surf rig — The slim shape carries into wind better than a bulkier lead of the same weight. Use a shock leader from CL-3 upward.
- Choosing the size — CL-½ and CL-1 for shallow, slow water and light rods. CL-1½ and CL-2 for moderate depth and a moving tide. CL-3 and CL-4 for deep water, running current or casting into wind. CL-5 and CL-6 for the deepest, fastest water and the longest casts. Go heavier the moment the lead creeps downtide.
- Bottom type — This is the slim lead to reach for over lumpy rock, coral edges and sunken timber, where a wide sinker jams.
Bottom Fishing By Region
- Southeast Asia — Mangrove-channel and jetty bottom fishing for barramundi (siakap), mangrove jack, catfish and grouper; the light codes suit canal and pond work for tilapia and freshwater catfish (ikan keli).
- North America — Carolina rig weights for bass over rock and gravel, surf fishing for pompano, whiting and striped bass.
- Japan & East Asia — Nage-zuri (投げ釣り) casting rigs for kisu and karei, and dou-tsuki (胴突き仕掛け) dropper rigs from boat and breakwater for kasago and mebaru.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Beach and estuary rigs for whiting, bream, flathead and mulloway; Gulf pier rigs for emperor and grouper; European boat fishing for cod and pollack on a running lead.
